Energy Kinetics, Inc. is a national manufacturer of innovative, high-efficiency heating and hot water systems. Since its inception in 1979, this family-owned and operated company has demonstrated a strong commitment to energy efficiency and the environment. Energy Kinetics received ENERGY STAR recognition for its superior efforts to display and promote the ENERGY STAR label. Key accomplishments include:
  • Qualifying 100% of its product line for the ENERGY STAR.
  • Upgrading its office and warehouse facility to reduce energy consumption by 30%. Energy Kinetics went on to rate its upgraded building with EPA's Portfolio Manager.
  • Prominently displaying ENERGY STAR logos on all advertising literature, shipping cartons, and products.
  • Installing a solar voltaic system that generates 34,000 kWh of electricity annually.

New Jersey Clean Energy Business Leader of the Year-2008

Energy Kinetics was named 2008 New Jersey Clean Energy Small Business Leader of year by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU), Office of Clean Energy. This award recognizes a New Jersey small business, for its outstanding leadership in using energy efficient and renewable technologies to help deliver savings and reduce greenhouse gases.

Roger Marran, president of Energy Kinetics explained, "There is an incredible opportunity to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions when we combine the powerful tools of renewable energy, efficiency improvements, and conservation. In addition to using System 2000 as our heat and hot water system, we applied more than 10 separate technologies and improvements. These technologies can benefit any home or business and can be prioritized based on a need to replace older equipment, expected return on investment, the desire to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gases, or considerations for the specific building. In fact, energy reductions of over 50% are often affordable and achievable through a combination of high performance heating equipment and building envelope or weatherization efforts."

Project Background and Summary
In order to accommodate the increased demand for the System 2000 product line, Energy Kinetics had to expand its corporate facility while managing overall energy consumption and costs. The expansion project offered an excellent opportunity to integrate energy efficiency, conservation, and solar power production with our advanced heating technology into a state-of-the-art, high performance facility located in Lebanon, NJ. This multi-faceted project features an industry leading, renewable energy solar photovoltaic system used to produce electricity for manufacturing. The high performance building also includes energy efficient upgrades to lighting (including motion sensors and natural lighting designs), HVAC systems with high efficiency motors, heat recovery ventilators, programmable thermostats, and insulation and weatherization efforts. The results demonstrate the benefits of combining efficiency, conservation and renewable energy.

Energy Kinetics' 2008 building upgrade delivers approximately 34,000 kWh of electricity per year, plus a savings of nearly 21,000 kWh conserved through lighting, HVAC and weatherization. The total project reduced overall energy needs by 30% and carbon dioxide emissions by 30 tons per year. Other energy savings were realized from the System 2000 high efficiency heating and hot water system and high efficiency lighting previously installed in the manufacturing, office and warehouse facility.

Energy Kinetics' solar photovoltaic system is the first commercial system installed in New Jersey under a new 'SREC-Only Pilot Program', a performance-based incentive program developed by New Jersey's Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) and administered by New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. The SREC-Only Pilot Program is the primary incentive used to support the development of enough solar electric generation to meet New Jersey's commitment in its Renewable Portfolio Standard.

Annual Reduction In Fuel Use

  System 2000 achieved the highest "annual reduction in fuel use" in Department of Energy Lab Study

System 2000 achieved the highest "annual reduction in fuel use" in the Brookhaven National Laboratory "Performance of Integrated Hydronic Systems", as presented by Dr. Thomas Butcher in May 2007. The results show System 2000 has a higher annual efficiency (with an AFUE of 87.5%) than the typical 95% AFUE modulating condensing gas boiler tested. Electrical consumption and additional losses from draft hoods and draft regulators were not included in the study, which reduced the efficiency of most other systems tested further. System 2000's hybrid energy recovery cycle, combined with the unique low mass boiler and hot water system, delivered the highest efficiency and significantly outperformed temperature reset controls.
