System 2000 Hybrid
Now you can upgrade your existing water heater and boiler, furnace or heat pump to a single high efficiency system engineered to deliver high performance and exceptional fuel efficiency and economy. The System 2000 Hybrid combines heat and hot water with a single high efficiency appliance to maximize efficiency in all seasons, with the additional benefits of virtually unlimited hot water and whisper quiet operation.
The special Hybrid Energy Recovery® cycle has a proven track record of quietly helping homeowners save for nearly 30 years. The Digital Energy Manager anticipates the end of thermostat calls, turning off the burner sooner and keeping your baseboard or other radiation warm longer for gentle heat and comfort at your thermostat setting. Unlike conventional cast iron boilers and other heating systems, this makes sure no heat is left wasted in the boiler. Combined with our advanced low mass design and high performance hot water system, homeowners experience typical savings of up to 40% or more!

System 2000 Energy Recovery® (Thermal Purge Hybrid)
Specifically designed for use with the System 2000 low mass boiler, the thermal purge cycle optimizes the performance of the combined heat and hot water system. On a thermostat call, System 2000 heats to full output in about two minutes; very little energy is required with a low mass boiler. The Digital Energy Manager anticipates the end of the heating need, although the boiler is still hot. The energy recovery or thermal purge then delivers the remaining heat into the home, saving energy each and every call.

Cast iron boilers simply can't take advantage of or benefit from a thermal purge. There's so much mass and heated water in large cast iron boilers that the home would overheat with an effective thermal purge. Further, when cast iron boilers use a coil inside a hot water tank, the boiler frequently heats to 180ºF or more. When the tank is done heating, the boiler remains hot - a near constant waste of energy. When a cast iron boiler makes domestic hot water it eliminates all benefits from using temperature reset controls by keeping the boiler hot through several hot water calls in a typical day. Supposed "low mass" cast iron boilers are still over 300 pounds with water, and most weigh much more...keeping this much mass hot year round wastes a lot of energy and places an unpleasant financial burden on the owner.
The small surface area of baseboard and standing cast iron radiators requires a higher water temperature than the larger surface found in radiant in floor heat. Because baseboard and cast iron radiation has to run hotter, temperature reset controls are even less effective. Thermal purge is designed to optimize the efficiency and performance of all types of heat distribution.
System 2000's low mass, thermal purge, and combined heat and hot water have been delivering unmatched, proven performance for over thirty years.

History of Thermal Purge and Hybrid Energy Recovery
In the late 1970's, Energy Kinetics founder, John Marran, knew there had to be a better way to heat homes. Many homes were, and still are, heated by cast iron boilers that often weigh more than 400, and even 600 pounds in addition to holding as much as twenty gallons of water. If conventional massive boilers were to start at room temperature, they would take 8 to 15 minutes just to heat up. A lot of energy and time is required before the boiler even begins to deliver heat or hot water. When the thermostat call ends, that 8 to 15 minutes of energy remaining in the boiler is typically lost up the chimney and to the outside. This is especially true in the spring, summer and fall. Even worse, many cast iron boilers maintain temperature all day, which means that they lose energy continuously. Homeowners pay an unnecessary and high cost for all that wasted energy. (If the space around your boiler is warm, especially in summer, you'll probably receive considerable savings by upgrading to System 2000.)
It was clear to John that two things had to occur to improve real efficiency. First, design a boiler that simply weighs less so it can heat up in a minute or two and more heat goes into your home instead of into the boiler itself. Second, anticipate the end of the thermostat call and "move" the heat from the boiler into the home or domestic hot water storage so that no energy is left wasted in the boiler.
John Marran invented the combined heat and hot water System 2000 with these innovative engineering concepts. His design was generations ahead of the industry and has stood the test of time with over 30 years of proven performance. John's System 2000 low mass boiler with thermal purge or Hybrid Energy Recovery provides dependable heat and hot water at very high efficiency. Today, System 2000 delivers proven savings of up to 40% or more over boilers with similar AFUE. When System 2000 was tested against its competitors at the Department of Energy's world-renowned Brookhaven National Laboratory, it was rated the clear winner.
Start your energy retrofit with the installation of a System 2000 boiler. System 2000 will adjust to all your future thermal conservation applications as there is little to no penalty for over sizing our boiler to the building load. Savings from installing a System 2000 boiler are hard to match with any other single home energy improvement, and are even greater than many home efficiency improvements combined.
So when you think real efficiency and real fuel savings, think System 2000. You'll be very glad you did.
